Alenquer, conquered to the mours in the XII century, had its first charter in the following century. It was in this village that was born, in 1501, one of the greatest chroniclers of the Portuguese Renaissance - Damião de Góis. A region famous for its wines, namely the whites that made a splash in the London Exposition of 1890, it has two different delimitations but both confined to the municipality that gives name to it. The vineyards form great continuous spots, following the relief and developing along hillsides and valleys. They produce wines of great quality, mainly of the half hillside of exposition South-East.
